If one wanted another tour, begin at the Goethe University,
and walk along Bokenheimer landstrasse where we reach the Palm
garden,
which is lovely. Take the underground (line6 or 7) to Konstablerwache,
where we cross the Zeil and passing the massive Kaufhof department
store as well as the Imax cinema, and we eventually reach the Hauptwache,
which is an outstanding Baroque building from the 1730’s.
It use to be a prison and its’ now a trendy coffee house.
Going back toward the Zeil and down Liebfrauen strass, we see
two unusual buildings, the Liebfrauen monastery and next to it
is the ritzy new shopping centre. A couple of hundred metres down
Berliner strasse is the cathedral where the German Kings were crowned
on the site. Crossing the Braubauch strasse we come across Rumerberg
- the cityÕs main landmark. This was previously a court
and the venue of Frankfurt’s first book fair. In the middle
of the square is the Fountain of Justice.
Going down to the riverside, we can visit Nicholai Kirche, built
in 1290 with tower and 40 bells that rings morning, noon and evening.
Then crossing the river on the Eiserner Steg bridge, one is amazed
at the Manhatten look to this city. On the other side of the Main
is the Museumsufer where the film museum and the Stadel museums
are based. Walking towards Schweizer strasse toward Sachsenhausen
district, why not go into one of those traditional cider pubs and
have one on us? Prost!
