Introduction to Frankfurt

Frankfurt is a city full of curiosities, with traditional and modern clashing together in a mish mash of high skyscrapers and small half- timbered houses. The city has a population of almost 540,000 residents, and a large immigrant community from all parts of the world, this city is a modern German city that still is embedded among its old traditional look.

The First Trade fair here way back in the middle- ages shaped Frankfurt into a business and commercial city designed for banking and Commerce. Frankfurt or as the locals would say, ‘Bankfurt’ is the home of over 420 banks which also includes the European Central bank and Germany’s Bundesbank, as well as Europe’s Largest Stock Exchange.

But don’t let this bother you because Frankfurt still has plenty to offer in terms of culture and things to do, places to see and lots more entertainment.

Frankfurt’s Old Town (Altstadt) was almost completely bombed in 1944 but still there are many sights like the R-mer, Leinwandhaus, Pauls Kirche, Dom and the Goethe Museum are all within walking distance of each other. Shopping malls are also in plentiful supply with such places as the Schillerpassage, or the Fressgass Passage.
The Entertainment in the form of theatre and dance can be seen in places like Schmiere, Tigerpalast or the Volks Theater.
